Aloha All Friends of the Waialua Bandstand --
Last Saturday we had a wonderful opportunity to reach out to out community in a public arena, namely a big community celebration at the Sugar Mill that had been organized by Bill Martin of Island X Hawaii.  He gave us a site just in front of the entrance to his store where the "Tastes of Waialua" was going on.  And the weather was perfect for a change.
We got to talk to a lot of people some of whom had never heard of us before.  We provided them with copies of a brochure and a schedule of the year's concerts.  Only a couple signed on a new members but we had more who expressed interest.  And we were rewarded with two corporate supporters, one new and one returning. The latter was the Friends for Waialua Town in the person of Kathleen Pahinui, the new president who pledged because she didn't have her checkbook with her.  The new supporter was a surprise.  Michael Magaoay, the member of the House who represents our district sat down for a chat.  After a few minutes he pulled out a check and presented it on behalf of the Friends For Michael Magaoay.  He will be our supporter for May when the Waialua High and Intermediate Band will perform for us.  This is especially appropriate since Michael is an alumnus of WHS and is still a resident.  Thank you, Michael!
I want especially to acknowledge my crew of volunteers who helped out at the table all morning and into the afternoon.  The stalwart group consisted of Nate Nathanson who was there with me all day, Kendra Martyn and her husband Ken, Kelly Perry, and Loretta Watts. And my wife Peggy who helped take down the tent and table at the end of our day.   You made the effort worthwhile.
Thank you all.
